Different Types Of Metal Used In Fabrication

common steel

Steel CRS & HRS

Common CRS Types:

(CRS) Cold Rolled Steel:..(CRS) Cold Rolled Steel: at the steel foundry in a cold state CRS is pressed into a sheet. We typically use CRS steel sheets.

  • 1018 is very easily welded and formed it’s a typical low carbon steel.
  • A366/1008 is which is easy to bend, a higher strength and with an above average surface finish commercial quality steel.

Common HRS Types:

Hot Rolled Steel (HRS):..HRS is formed into a sheet in a molten state and rolled flat while still hot. HRS is usually of less quality than CRS, is more difficult to machine due to variable composition in the metal.

  • A36 is a very common mild steel. It is much easier to form than CRS 1018, but more difficult to machine.
  • A653 Galvanized incorporates a Zink finish for defense from corrosion and is also steel.

Stainless Steel Types

Stainless Steel (CRES):..CRES is an alloy based upon steel and chromium and it is classified by its ability to resist corrosion. The gauge thickness is equivalent to typical steel. Stainless-steel is significantly harder than common steel and isn't easy to use in a few aspects. Our lasers think its great and have absolutely no issues with it. It is challenging to punch, and can be difficult to weld.

  • CRES 304 is the most widely used which is easy to weld and form multipurpose stainless steel.
  • CRES 301 is commonly used for fasteners and springs which offers better wear resistance and fatigue than 304. Good weldability.
  • CRES 316 compared to 304 it has great corrosion resistance, chemical processing applications is its best use. This type has good weld ability and temperature resistance.
  • CRES 303 is a good material to machine, which makes it best used to create screw machine products. It is also good for corrosion resistance and temperature.
  • CRES 410 is frequently utilized for fasteners and machined parts given that it usually is heat treated for additional hardness and extra wear resistance.

aluminum

Series of Aluminum

Aluminum: There are various mixtures of aluminum, which are called alloys, that are mixed with other metals, often with zinc, copper, magnesium, manganese or silicon. There are too many alloys of aluminum to list. The 4 digit code after the number is the temper or the tensile strength of the alloy that ranges from soft T0 to T6 and full hard T6. 5052-H32, 6061-T6, 6061-T4 Metal Werks uses for most of our parts.

  • 5052-H32 is one of the most popular alloys we use. It offers outstanding resistance to corrosion, easy to bend and to weld.
  • 6061-T6 is a versatile aluminum with resistance to corrosion.
